Getting enough exercise is a great challenge in today’s work-driven world: there are just too many reports to finish, too many accounts to attend to, and too many deals to close. A day at the gym can be too demanding for the busy executive, and a few hours spent at the treadmill can be hell for anyone rushing after a thousand deadlines.
A greater challenge, moreover, is getting the proper exercise: every minute of the one or two hours spent at the gym should count, and every exercise should put your muscles in stronger, better shape.
Commercial gyms are fine – they have all the equipment that you could ever need and usually it’s the best and newest on the market, there’s no family stuff to distract you from your workout, and if you’re in a staffed gym, you’ll have trainers to help you out and give you advice.
Still, there are advantages to having a home gym as well. You don’t have far to travel. You don’t have to compete for equipment or wait for it to free up. You can train whenever you want – if you’re a night person, you can train at 3:00 am if you so desire. And you have no monthly or annual gym fees.
It’s no secret that members of Congress broker deals on the treadmill or in the weight room of the House and Senate gyms. But former congressman Eric Massa’s accusation that White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel once berated him in the gym‘s shower over his vote against President Obama’s budget left Washington watchers wondering how much business politicians conduct while naked.

There are two main types of machines on the market, cardiovascular and strength training. Your body will look very different after you’ve shed the pounds depending on which exercise machine you choose.
